The Shocking And Stunning Return With Self-Titled Debut Album

Tuesday 9th April, 2019 11:16AM

Wellington keys / drums duo The Shocking and Stunning have dropped their first release in six years, after being conspicuously absent from local stages following a thrilling run of live shows and EPs earlier this decade. The instrumental group describe their new self-titled record, which is also their debut long-player, as “emotive, physically propulsive and above all, f***ing epic” and they're absolutely on the money. Hyper-energetic driving percussion (recorded by James Goldsmith at Munki Studios) sets the scene for majestic and powerfully motivating synth-driven passages, with swirling arpeggios and haunting pads recalling the likes of cinematic fellow travellers Zombi, Goblin, John Carpenter and X-Files theme composer Mark Snow. Featuring five new tracks alongside re-recorded works from previous releases, the album explores a sonic interzone between realms of dance, trance, noise and drone, and is a more than welcome return from the band. Does this mean local live shows may also be on the horizon? Ponder that mystery and dive into The Shocking and Stunning here...

The Shocking and Stunning is out now on Bandcamp, Spotify, Apple Music, iTunes and Youtube.
