Listen To Troy Kingi's New Album 'Holy Colony Burning Acres'

A.B. / Friday 12th July, 2019 11:54AM

Multitalented Northland treasure Troy Kingi has just dropped the third instalment in his ambitious 10 / 10 / 10 series (ten albums in ten genres in ten years), Holy Colony Burning Acres. Stepping away from the Parliament-inspired sci-funk of 2018’s Shake Your Skinny Ass All The Way To Zygertron, the new record embraces the language and style of 70’s emancipatory deep roots reggae (think Burning Spear, Wailing Souls, The Congos, or The Upsetters) for a powerful exploration of indigeneity and the grim effects of colonialism. Kingi will be debuting all thirteen songs from the album tonight at Tāmaki Makaurau's free festival Te Korakora on Federal. Performing with his massive ten-piece band The Upperclass, Kingi promises an impressive audio-visual spectacular – couldn’t be many better ways to celebrate Matariki than that.

'Holy Colony Burning Acres' is out now digitally and on CD via Troy Kingi's Bandcamp page.
