Swedish black metal bludgeoners Dark Funeral made their incendiary Aotearoa debut last night, laying siege to Pōneke’s heavy music stronghold Valhalla. Founding band leader / guitarist Lord Ahriman and company laid down stony-faced incantations and blasphemy-inducing guitar riffs while vocalist Heljarmadr sported a visually suggestive cat o’ nine tails. The capital’s darkness-inclined punters turned out in full force, with one even donning their own gig-going battle armour. Opening the evening’s evil-inciting proceedings were local black / death metal bruisers Decimation Hammer and Vesicant.
