Weekly Roundup: Friday 13th September

C.C. / Friday 13th September, 2019 7:30PM

As our minds start to drift towards summer holiday plans and imminent fun in the sun, it could be dangerously easy to accidentally skip over the crucial question: what the heck happened in music this week? Don't stress because we've got your back, here's this week's news roundup...

On Thursday we were stoked to finally lift the lid on our brand new video series, UTR Caught Live! We’re pointing the camera at Aotearoa’s alive and thriving music scene, made in collaboration with local venues, filmmakers David Green Productions and animator Frances Haszard. To view the first episode, showcasing Pōneke crew French For Rabbits playing a gorgeous rendition of their unreleased song 'The Overflow' at The Wine Cellar, head over here. While you're at it, you can also dive into our freshly unveiled and slightly tardy UTR September playlist right here, full to the brim with more crucial cuts from Aotearoa and beyond than ever before.

Announcement highlights included Tāmaki Makaurau's Whammy Bar revealed the jam-packed lineup for this year's two night Whammyfest 2019, the Southern Fork Americana Fest unveiled the six support acts performing at this year's celebration of country, folk and bluegrass, dreamscape creators Green Grove are embarking on a North Island launch tour for their debut album Machine Music kicking off in late September, and St. Jerome’s Laneway Festival revealed they'll be bringing their multi-stage extravangaza back to Tāmaki Makaurau's leafy Albert Park in late January 2020 - tune in this Wednesday for the first lineup drop.

Our Caught Live video for the week features genre-straddling Swedish / Chilean DJ and producer Dinamarca, head of Stockholm label Staycore, who's heading our way for a one-off Tāmaki Makaurau headline event, courtesy of the party-loving folk at Community Garden. There's no simple way to condense these things down, so dive deep into a whopping hour-long set of Dinamarca doing what they do best in Berlin for Boiler Room, to get a taste of what's to come this October...
