Robert Scott Covers David Berman's 'Room Games And Diamond Rings'
Helmsman of Christchurch indie rock gods The Bats and key member of 2017 New Zealand Music Hall Of Fame inductees The Clean, Robert Scott has unveiled a cover of David Berman's 'Room Games And Diamond Rings', featured on Approaching Perfection: A Tribute To DC Berman, a new collection celebrating the work of the sadly departed US songwriter. Recorded with Dunedin's Jared Smith, Scott's unmistakable vocal tones provide a fitting substitute for Berman's rich croon, capturing the unhurried majesty of the song which originally appeared in a slightly different form on the Silver Jews' splendid 2001 album Bright Flight. Scott isn't the only Aotearoa connection on the expansive 36 track compilation, with expat Dean Wareham (Luna) contributing a dreamy rendition of Purple Mountains' 'Snow Is falling In Manhattan' – dive into Approaching Perfection : A Tribute To DC Berman below...
