Julia Jacklin Unveils Video For 'Don't Know How To Keep Loving You'
Australian singer-songwriter Julia Jacklin battles with romantic turmoil in her self-directed video for ‘Don’t Know How To Keep Loving You’ from her acclaimed sophomore album Crushing that came out earlier this year. Jacklin is one of three backup dancers for her own song, performing simple choreography in matching dresses, which she says she would wear on stage “if it wasn't extremely hot and highly flammable.” As the second verse turns over, Jacklin’s composure cracks and eyes well up, as the lyrics in the song appear to hit home and she breaks formation. The video drop coincides with a massive tour announcement, including promise of extra New Zealand dates to still be revealed in addition to her spot at Auckland’s Laneway Festival this coming summer.
Julia Jacklin opened up about her heartbreaking single shot clip: "The video was filmed in the upstairs function room of a Turkish restaurant called Alasya, on Melbourne's Sydney Road. I was initially drawn to the wood panelling and red carpet. Everyone in the clip is a friend from Melbourne except Harry, who was visiting from Sydney, and also plays bass in my band. He’s also featured in three of my other clips.
The idea for this video was hard, however I knew it had to be kept simple, with the song doing all the work. I love that it was one shot for that reason."
'Crushing' is out now via Liberation Records.
