Pickle Darling Covers David Berman's ‘Nights That Won’t Happen’

A.K. / Monday 21st October, 2019 11:24AM

Ōtautahi based bedroom-pop songwriter Pickle Darling is in good company on Late Homework, a tribute album to the late David Berman (Silver Jews, Purple Mountains). In the days after news came out of Berman’s passing, musicians Aaron Powell (Fog Lake) and Sheridan Medosch (Florry) joined forces to commemorate the prolific US songwriter with a charity compilation of covers (as did music website Section 26), featuring Frankie Cosmos (as Franz Charcoal), Emperor X, Hello Shark, Little Pink and Aotearoa’s own Pickle Darling aka Lukas Mayo, plus many more – with all proceeds going toward addiction treatment non-profit organisation Shatterproof. Mayo took on his “favourite song of the year” and one of the last releases from Purple Mountains, ‘Nights That Won’t Happen’. Pickle Darling's version is every bit blue and melancholy as the original, packaged up in twee keys and tender strings – take a moment and listen below…

Pickle Darling's debut album 'Bigness' is out now via Z Tapes.

'Late Homework, The Songs Of David Berman' is out now via Dear Life Records.
