Here's Five: The Cavemen Pick Their Favourite Wild Garage Punk Songs

Here's Five: The Cavemen Pick Their Favourite Wild Garage Punk Songs

C.C. / Selected by Paul Cavemen / Thursday 5th December, 2019 11:32AM

Untamed rock 'n' rollers The Cavemen are gearing up to tear Aotearoa a new one on their homecoming tour of the North Island, kicking off at Auckland's Whammy Bar next Thursday before obliterating stages in Wellington, Whanganui and Tauranga. Emerging from Tāmaki Makaurau's subterranean music scene in the mid '10s before jetting off to run rampant across the globe, the four piece have gifted listeners with such riff-mangling opuses as 2018's Nuke Earth, 2016's Born To Hate and their eponymously titled 2015 debut LP. We couldn't resist the urge to hit up "New Zealand's most dangerous rock 'n' roll band" about their favourite wild garage punk songs and Paul Cavemen generously obliged with the good stuff. Enjoy his expertly selected hit picks with commentary below, and catch The Cavemen bringing the party to a town near you this summer...

1. The Masters Apprentices – 'War Or Hands Of Time'

Warped my mind on a boom box on a Waitakere ranges acid trip... I looked in a puddle and saw Charles Manson... help?

2. The Monsters – 'Go Away - Fuck Your Self'

I’m currently trapped in a bamboo cage with no room to sit or stand in Hanoi with Beatman and this song is ringing very true...

3. The Henchmen – 'Bitch Goddess'

A beautiful kiwi love song... I walked down the aisle to this one!

4. Dee Dee Owen – 'I Shoulda Been Aborted'

Pretty self explanatory...

5. The Loved Ones – 'Ever Lovin' Man'

Unbelievable... This one's for my mother and missus.

Bonus cut:

King Khan and BBQ – 'Zombies'

In four years gone from ripping these guys off via The Admiral to making the new Spinal Tap movie with them... what a trip!
