Melodownz Shares Addictive New Track 'Fine'

A.K. / Friday 3rd April, 2020 10:40AM

Avondale hip hop hitmaker Melodownz cha chas onto the airwaves with addictive new drop 'Fine'. The Pacific Music Award winner follows up his 2019 track 'No Mercy' (featuring Denzel Curry) with flying colours, and 'Fine' could not have been released at a more appropriate time: A song about pretending to be doing okay when you're secretly having a minor mental breakdown. Over addictive trap rhythms from Tāmaki Makaurau beat wizard Mercy, Melodownz spits frank lines about mental health, "Everybody been at their lowest before" and the denialist self-affirmations that can come with it "I've been feeling fine, no trouble on my mind". Melodownz wrote about the context of the song in a Facebook post this morning:

"I know times have been challenging for the world right now. It's changed the way we live the way we feel, the way we work. I thought releasing a song called “FINE” might seem a bit off for these times.

I wrote this song when I was going through one of the darkest stages in my life. I used this song as a self-affirmation which helped me through it and gave me healing. Reassuring myself that whatever happens I'm gonna be fine.

I’m hoping it spreads a lil love and light to whoever hears it and can do the same for you too."

The teaser of a Connor Pitchard directed party clip is out now, with the full video premiering tonight at 4:45pm. Set a reminder and watch along with the rest of the country – and keep an eye out for cameos from some alpacas and an Aotearoa hip hop icon...
