Villainy Cover Dave Dobbyn's 'Language' For NZ Music Month

C.C. / Monday 18th May, 2020 3:30PM

Tāmaki Makaurau rockers Villainy have revealed an impassioned, acoustic guitar-driven cover of Dave Dobbyn's singalong favourite 'Language', as part of a rollout of reimaginings of evergreen local tunes for NZ Music Month. As documented in the accompanying clip edited together by Thom Watts, the Tui award-winning four-piece's version was laid down in each member's own homes during lockdown, as part of their 'iso-coustic' sessions, following the March release of their Begger EP. They opened up about their shared love for Dobbyn's timeless classic...

"Dave Dobbyn is a bloody legend and he's written dozens of great kiwi songs. We also have a huge respect for his craft and Language is one of those songs that defines his catalogue. It's a hell of tune and we wanted to do something that we could really strip right back down to basics."

Villainy would love to raise awareness for SaveOurVenues.co.nz who are raising money for small venues to keep them on their feet. The band have donated 100% of their merch sales over 3 days last week donating $1,000 to the cause.
