The Frank Burkitt Band Unveil Single / Video 'Don't Be Afraid'

C.C. / Tuesday 26th May, 2020 1:42PM

"It's going to take more than a deep breath / to break free and get out of this mess" sings Tui award-winning songwriter Frank Burkitt in his new single 'Don't Be Afraid', sounding both timeless and timely as Aotearoa's live music community begins to recover from lockdown. The Frank Burkitt Band are currently geographically separated, with Burkitt and Kara Filbey residing in Manchester, and James Geluk and Cameron Dusty Burnell based in Wellington. The delicate new song offers a reflective portrait of Burkitt and Filbey's own experiences over the past couple of months and comes accompanied by a DIY video created by the pair in the UK, shot in and around their own home...

"The song and accompanying music video is an artistic journal entry of this crazy time in our lives, that up until only 2 months ago, seemed impossible. The footage takes in Frank and Kara’s home life and the short walk that they could do from home each day, trying to capture the community spirit and camaraderie that has been so beautifully exposed by this terrible virus.

We hope it can soothe the soul, clear the mind or perhaps help heal some pain."

'Don't Be Afraid' is streamable now via Second Hand Records.
