Louis Baker Covers '10 Feet Tall' By Fat Freddy's Drop For NZ Music Month

Taite Music Prize 2020 finalist Louis Baker reveals an appropriately soulful rendition of Fat Freddy's Drop's '10 Feet Tall', originally featured on their 2015 album Bays. Recorded and filmed at home during the most turbulent time for Aotearoa music this century at least, Baker's cover caps off a month-long run of reimaginings of evergreen local tunes, released in celebration of the 20th anniversary of NZ Music Month. The Pōneke artist opened up about his love for the song and the work of Fat Freddy's Drop...

"Freddy’s have been a huge influence on me ever since I heard Based On A True Story.

I chose 10 Feet Tall because it has an uplifting kind of magic to it. I admire Dallas’ poetic nature and his lyrics resonate with me on a deep level. 10 Feet Tall really left me thinking, that great songs say it for you. They echo the essence of what your feeling, so that you don't have to articulate it yourself.

Doing this cover allowed me to tap into something new, as it's the first time I've produced anything with a dub flavour. The video was filmed by my girlfriend on her iPhone, with a full live performance pass of the vocal and guitar in my home studio."
