Kraus 'A Golden Brain' Album Release Ft. Old Chips Announced

A supreme commander of the livestream format, as evinced by a spectacularly brain-bending lockdown performance on Melted Ice Cream / Space Academy's Better Living TV, Kraus returns to the physical realm this July, playing a special album release show for recently launched stunner A Golden Brain. Joining the "magnificent prolificessor of analogue futurist sound archeology" for an evening of ear-tickling treats at Audio Foundation will be none other than Old Chips, the ambient solo project of prolific musical plate spinner Amelia Berry (Amamelia, Polyester, Fimo, Babyteeth). When Kraus' album first dropped in the ancient days of April 2020, we said "A Golden Brain should rightly provoke street parades and the like, as it stands with the best from their back catalogue as being very good indeed" - and we stand by those words! Aotearoa/New Zealand instrumental producer Kraus is back with a new album A Golden Brain, a scorching hot firecracker that sets the controls for the heart of somewhere between the outer limits and the Bermuda Triangle.

I have never heard one dunger from Kraus, and here, his space-fried freakbeat micro-ragas are as hypnotic and alluring as ever. A Golden Brain is instantly hooky and familiar but radically singular and blazingly new.

These pieces burn deep into your psyche and will hum and melt inside your head like a fever dream while you sleep. Kraus majestically brings together synths, guitar, bass, tape loops, sampler and percussion with a kind of alchemical juju. These pieces of scrunched up space junk, arcane mangled library music, mutant folk and medieval futurism will leave you scratching your head, wondering how he does it. (Kiran Dass)
