The Others Way 2020 Festival Announced For September

The Others Way 2020 Festival Announced For September

Chris Cudby / Thursday 16th July, 2020 8:00AM

The champs at Flying Out have revealed the multi-venue The Others Way festival is returning to take over Tāmaki Makaurau's central city Karangahape Road district this coming September. While the organisers are still keeping mum about who's playing, they've confirmed the festival will feature over forty acts "of emerging and established stars of the New Zealand music scene," and will take place across fourteen venues (welcoming new venues Phoenix Cabaret and Monster Valley) – a significant triumph considering what Aotearoa's live music spaces have been through over the past few months.

Now into their sixth year, The Others Way have consistently presented an adventurous and diverse alternative to stodgy standard festival fare – there's lots of fun to be had checking out unfamiliar acts and discovering new personal favourites. 2020's festival will also introduce a new all ages precinct on Pitt Street, including Girls Rock Camp stages, so music fans don't have to miss out just because they're under 18. Flying Out's Matthew Davis stressed the importance of The Other's Way's return in a tumultuous year for our live music community...

“It’s been a tough year for Karangahape Road and the wider music community. We had to think very seriously about whether to go ahead with the festival this year, but concluded that the very best way to support bands, our local venues and the hospitality community is to put on a show.

The Others Way has become a fixture on the calendar for music lovers as well as one of the busiest nights of the year for the venues and nearby bars and restaurants. Karangahape Road is going to be packed on the night of the festival which will be great for everyone.

There are over 40 acts set to play, and we know fans will be excited about making new discoveries and hearing from their favourites. We've got a strong line-up and we'll be ready to share it very soon."

UPDATE 4/09/20: The Others Way 2020 is sadly unable to go ahead on 11th September because of Government restrictions on audience numbers due to Covid-19. All ticket-holders will be contacted directly with refund information and an opportunity to contribute to The Others Way, the artists and venues involved.
