Phodiso Drops Single / Video 'Running Lines' From Debut EP 'Act I'

Annabel Kean / Friday 24th July, 2020 12:18PM

You'll have heard Phodiso (Phodiso Dintwe) on Mazbou Q's track ‘Blacklight’ and JessB's Bloom EP, plus a handful of his own singles in the past two years, but today he shares the news of his debut EP Act I, along with lead track 'Running Lines'. The Botswana-born, Auckland-based songwriter wrote 'Running Lines' as a way to take the listener on a journey, explaining "These are my words as much as they are yours. As the Tswana say, 'a person is a person through other people'". There's a bubbling energy to the new cut, from the mix of driving drums, moments of quiet, and the creeping piano riff that simmers below it all, even under his poetic spoken break. The glitched-out video, created by Auckland director Hunter Williams, exists in a green and orange city at night, evoking a dreamlike feeling with lofi fuzz and crisp, late night mist. Act I is out next month, listen to 'Running Lines' to hear what you're in for...

Phodiso's debut EP 'Act I' is out Friday 14th August.
