Vayne Unveils Debut EP 'Gutta Girl' + Video For 'Uh Huh'

Annabel Kean / Friday 31st July, 2020 12:32PM

Aotearoa rising star Vayne has put in the hard yards leading up to today's debut EP release, rarking up festival crowds at FOMO and The Others Way, and locking in a highly sought after support slot for Six60 early this year. The six tracks on Gutta Girl are high class hip hop, showcasing the Māori rap artist's slick rap chops and cut-to-your-core vocals, swinging through snare, heavy synth and bass – with a guest contribution from Church Leon (Church & AP) on 'Make It’. The icing on the cake is a dazzling video for lead track ‘Uh Huh’ co-directed and filmed by the indefatigable Connor Pritchard, who also today released a killer clip for Troy Kingi.

“A Gutta Girl to me is mana wahine, someone who perseveres through dark times. Certain things that’ve happened to me in my life lead me to feel like I was in some sort of dark realm, which I called the Gutta. Gutta Girl is a past version of myself that I’ll always cherish and I know there are other Gutta Girl’s out their trying to find their way in life despite their struggles.”

Vayne's ‘Gutta Girl’ EP is out today on all streaming platforms via Sony Music New Zealand.
