Troy Kingi Announces New Album 'The Ghost of Freddie Cesar' + Shares Single / Video

Annabel Kean / Friday 31st July, 2020 9:21AM

It's no secret that Troy Kingi is in a league of his own, having embarked on his 10 albums in 10 years in 10 genres journey, and so far completely nailing it. The third album in the series, Holy Colony Burning Acres, earned the mega-talented songwriter the 2020 Taite Music Prize, multiple New Zealand Music Awards, and an APRA Silver Scroll Award shortlist spot. Today, Troy Kingi & the Clutch unveil the sound to come from record number four in lead track 'All Your Ships Have Sailed', a velvety slice of funk and soul, setting the scene for an album inspired by an old mixtape Kingi found while going through his father’s belongings. The name Freddie Cesar was scrawled on the cassette, with a hand written track list on the back, leading to naming his next record The Ghost of Freddie Cesar and incorporating beats and lyrics he found on the tape. "An album dedicated to memories, lost souls, and 70s funk" is out on Friday the 11th of September, and followed up by documentary Freddie, Where Art Thou, which follows the explorative album process. That's enough exciting news for now, let that all sink in and experience Connor Pritchard's clip for 'All Your Ships Have Sailed', created with the support of NZ On Air...

Troy Kingi's next album in his ten year series 'The Ghost of Freddie Cesar' is out Friday 11th September via Triple A Records.
