Phodiso Unveils Debut EP 'Act I' + Video For 'Respek'

In less than a month, Botswana-born, Auckland-based rapper Phodiso has gone from featuring on a couple of Mazbou Q and JessB tracks, to having his debut single 'Running Lines' make itself at home in student radio charts, spending some time in that #1 spot too. His five-track EP Act I is out today, and with a title promising further collections to come, it makes sense that the first has an eclectic spectrum of sounds, laying the groundwork for further exploration into Motswako, a Southern African sub-genre of hip hop. In his own words, Phodiso explained "I want this EP to transform listeners into different realms of thought and feel as each track passes". Opener 'Relative' is mellow, Phodiso introducing his vocal talents beyond rap and poetry before laying into songs with hints of trap, and loads of body-buzzing beats made for dancing.
