Damon Albarn and Tank Girl co-creator Jamie Hewlett's evergreen cartoon virtual band Gorillaz have unleashed a new song in collaboration with iconic frontman of The Cure Robert Smith. The perfectly titled sixth "episode" in their star studded Song Machines series, 'Strange Timez' spotlights the unmistakable UK vocalist's playful side — serving up a bubbling cauldron of helter skelter keys, late nite sax and smeary atmospheric washes before settling into a wonky pop groove as Smith yowls "strange time to be alive".

If 'Strange Timez' isn't enough to set your world on fire, Gorillaz have also revealed they have a new album out next month named Song Machine: Season One – Strange Timez, collecting together their recent collaborative singles plus a whole lot more. Releasing in both a standard version and an expanded deluxe edition, the latter version will feature a collaboration with none other than Aotearoa's Unknown Mortal Orchestra and Goldlink, alongside songs with such mega-stars as Elton John, 6LACK, Beck, St. Vincent, Kano, Roxani Arias, Leee John, EARTHGANG, Joan As Police Woman, Moonchild Sanelly, JPEGMAFIA and CHAI. While we literally can't wait to hear that UMO collab, delve into the mysteries of 'Strange Timez' featuring Robert Smith below...

'Song Machine: Season One – Strange Timez' releases on Friday 23rd October.
