Fresh from the release of her mixtape 99% Angel and remixes EP, Theia (Em Walker) helps kick off Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori (Māori Language Week) with the first single from her new te reo Māori project TE KAAHU. Described by the Waiata Māori Music Award and NZ Music Award nominee as "a tangi apakura (song of lament) dedicated to my late beloved grandmother Rangirara," 'E Taku Huia Kaimanawa' was produced by Sydney's William Bradshaw aka Oh Boy — with cover artwork adorned by an image of Rangirara who passed away suddenly four years ago, and also features in the tender piano-driven waiata's accompanying lyric video. Active on multiple fronts in encouraging the revitalisation of Māori language and culture, Theia organises te reo classes at Whammy Bar (email whammybarauckland@gmail.com for more info) and last year released Christmas waiata 'Te Kaiwhakaora O Te Ao'.

Theia opened up about the feelings expressed on TE KAAHU's debut release: “’E Taku Huia Kaimanawa’ explores the pain and grief of death... That desperate feeling of loneliness and wanting so badly for that person to return to you but knowing that you must let them go.”

'E Taku Huia Kaimanawa' is streamable now via Spotify.
