New Dates Announced For Violent Femmes New Zealand Tour

New Dates Announced For Violent Femmes New Zealand Tour

Chris Cudby / Tuesday 22nd September, 2020 1:00PM

As Aotearoa's live scene gets rolling again at full steam from today onwards (everywhere outside of Auckland that is), we haven't been forgotten by the world beyond our borders. Beloved by multiple generations of fans, Milwaukee alt-folk icons Violent Femmes are sensibly giving Covid-19 a wide berth, revealing today their 2020 NZ headline shows in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch have been rescheduled to a much more likely to happen trio of February 2022 dates. Creators of such timeless anthems as 'Blister In The Sun', 'Gone Daddy Gone', 'Kiss Off', 'Add it Up' and 'American Music', the chance to sing along with Violent Femmes co-founders Gordon Gano and Brian Ritchie, joined by recent additions Blaise Garza and John Sparrow, will be worth the wait.

We chatted with Ritchie about a lifetime in music and his work as music curator for cutting-edge annual festival Mona Foma, along with contributing to its winter Dark Mofo programme – read that interview here and scope out Violent Femmes' newly updated tour details below...

UPDATE: "Due to the ongoing global crisis, and to be as cautious with the health and safety of our fans, road crew and ourselves, we have decided to cancel the Australia / New Zealand tour. Refunds will be issued from point of purchase." - Violent Femmes

Press release:

Violent Femmes eponymous debut from 1983 was THE soundtrack for so many. It was – and still remains - a firm favourite and a very influential record with its rugged pop sensibility and themes of alienation, isolation, sexual frustration and angst.

Violent Femmes have continued to release great albums, and for their return to New Zealand shores they come with a brand new album - their 10th - Hotel Last Resort, which resides among the band’s finest work, simultaneously refining and redefining their one-of-a-kind take on American music.

Don’t miss Violent Femmes – the legendary Gordon Gano, Brian Ritchie, Blaise Garza and John Sparrow - live around New Zealand in February 2022 performing classics from across their entire career.

Tickets for all shows remain valid for the new dates. Refunds are available up to Thursday, October 22nd 2020 for those who can’t attend on the new date. Check with your local ticket agent for full details.
