Ben Harper Unveils All-Instrumental Album 'Winter Is For Lovers'
Beloved by fans across Aotearoa for such anthems as 'Diamonds On The Inside' and 'Excuse Me Mr', Ben Harper showcases another side to his oeuvre with his lush new album Winter Is For Lovers, an all-instrumental collection performed entirely on lap steel guitar. Citing as an influence the time Harper spent working as a child at his grandparents' The Folk Music Store in California, where he met key figures including Ry Cooder, Leonard Cohen and Taj Mahal (from whom he learnt fingerpicking), the pared back record's kaleidoscopic scope encompasses folk, blues, Hawaiian and classical traditions — recalling to these ears the evocative work of 20th Century guitar luminary John Fahey. Rewardingly meditative listening for quiet times, open your ears to Winter Is For Lovers below...
