Hahko Drops Electronic Two Track EP 'JPN S99'

Hahko Drops Electronic Two Track EP 'JPN S99'

Annabel Kean / Monday 25th January, 2021 1:06PM

When he's not compiling and curating the talent-heavy 48 hour Two Daze creations for New Zealand Music Month, Isaac McFarlane (Two Cartoons) releases electronic tunes as Hahko. Usually one to bust out EPs stacked with mellow, downtempo tracks or jazzed up remixes of pop favourites, the new mini drop JPN S99 finds Hahko layering more melodies and lush vocal samples, filling in the empty space. In his own words, 'S99' and 'Japanese Dream' are "closer to songs than dance tracks", and McFarlane cites the likes of Toro Y Moi, Mount Kimbie, and Tāmaki's own Leaping Tiger as inspiration for the JPN S99 iteration of Hahko. The two new singles are best described as FUN; better suited to an on foot, pep-in-your-step commute rather than the chill study beats vibes on past EPs Ko-Lahj and HOPEFUL. If Hahko isn't already a familiar face to you in the Auckland music scene, get to know him in deep dive local musician interview series Hahko Meets Humans. Here are his new beats, and below is the very latest from the poddy...
