Mazbou Q Starts Fortnightly Singles Series With 'The Get Up'
Aotearoa-based Nigerian hip hop artist / producer Mazbou Q begins his rollout of fortnightly singles today, starting with delicious, funky number 'The Get Up'. In an era of uncertainty and hard knocks, Mazbou Q says the track is "a letter of encouragement to myself and anyone else who is thinking of throwing in the towel", wrapped up in an infectious beat and anthemic energy. The brains behind the bars, Hugh Ozumba co-produced 'The Get Up' with Devon Abrams (Pacific Heights, ex-Shapeshifter), and the pair built the uplifting track with '90s hip hop beats and a deluxe bass melody. Ozumba's influences punch through in his delivery, serving Kendrick Lamar-style inflections and Anderson Paak. soul with an Aotearoa spin and flow. Keep an ear out for the next in his eight-part series, 'coz this is one hell of a strong start...
