Lontalius Unveils Side Two Of 'Someone Will Be There For You'
In an era of singles and EP popularity, Lontalius aka Eddie Johnston has released his third album Someone Will Be There For You with a new approach, launching Sides One and Two six months apart. Created while holed up in a '70s Auckland studio, the Pōneke artist says he's "really excited for this album to come out in full", having shared the ethereal dream-pop first half back in November 2020. The follow-up completes the 10-track collection, which saw Johnston self-producing for the first time, drawing from his experience recording music in LA, saying it's "The product of coming home from LA and growing up a little, it feels like a turning point of sorts". In an in-depth track-by-track reflection, Eddie Johnston wrote the following on Someone Will Be There For You...
"I recorded these songs in an old 70s studio in Auckland, New Zealand. A studio that’s barely been touched since it was built. It can create this lovely vintage warmth around everything, so it only made sense to break that up and throw an 808 on it.
People often characterise my music as ‘sad’, and I understand what they mean, but ‘sad’ music is really the exact opposite for me. It’s supposed to wrap around you like a warm blanket - to give you comfort when you need it. That’s exactly what artists like Elliot Smith do for me."
