Troy Kingi Announces New Album + Shares Single / Video 'Call My Name'

Annabel Kean / Friday 14th May, 2021 10:15AM

Troy Kingi is inching closer to the halfway point of his 10 10 10 Series: Ten albums, ten genres, ten years. Wrapping up the roll out of the funkified The Ghost of Freddie Cesar, Kingi now swaps out his soul stylings for folk twang and twelves strings on Black Sea Golden Ladder. Co-produced with Ōtautahi folk / country stalwart Delaney Davidson, who also plays a variety of instruments on the record, Kingi says "It is the most personal of all my albums – the first one I feel that is truly about me", and was written over an intensive four day period at the Matairangi Mahi Toi Artist Residency apartment on Pōneke's Clyde Wharf, created with support from NZ On Air. Each track dives deep into a different part of life, from birth to death, with the lead single 'Call My Name' unearthing school day memories, written by Davidson, Kingi and Kingi's daughter. Shot at the Youth And Adults In the Music Industry Summit in Wanaka earlier this month (where the duo performed and ran workshops) the vintage-look video features summit attendees to the knee-slapping new tune...

Troy Kingi's 'Black Sea Golden Ladder' is out June 18th via AAA Records.
