Live Photos: Mansfield In Her Own Words - Michael Fowler Centre, Wellington
Charlotte Yates' Mansfield project is reaching crescendo this month with two enormous ensemble Mansfield - In Her Own Words shows, the first of which made poetry-meets-music magic last night at Pōneke's Michael Fowler Centre. The artists featured on the Mansfield compilation brought the poetry of Katherine Mansfield back to life, transforming her words into modern day pop, rock, folk and soul. Anna Coddington (who celebrated her birthday last night — happy birthday Anna!) opened the evening before returning to the stage to sing alongside Lawrence Arabia; Delaney Davidson put on an entrancing performance of his contribution 'Pic-Nic'; and Lontalius, The Bats, Lorina Harding, Julia Deans, Charlotte Yates herself, and the rest of the impressive Mansfield troupe all took turns commemorating the important works of one of Aotearoa's greatest poets. The full bill will be convoying up the North Island for their Tāmaki show at the Bruce Mason Centre this Sunday. Frequent UTR contributor Bruce Mackay captured the evening in high definition, take a look via the thumbnails below to see what all the fuss is about...
