Watch LEAO Perform 'Afiafi' / 'Siva Masina' + 'Musika Malie' Live For RNZ
The musical project of David Feauai-Afaese, LEAO's debut Ghost Roads EP resonates as strongly today as when it first launched in late 2019 — which we said at the time "opens up hauntological pathways, combining South Pacific tradition with post-punk / hypnagogic pop techniques to conjure a hugely compelling, enjoyable and sonically distinct ocean of sound." Named in homage to the matai name ‘Leao’ (translated as ‘The Day’), LEAO is a core member of Aotearoa's groundbreaking Noa Records collective alongside WhyFi. and Strangelove, who recently teamed up for a spellbinding RNZ live to air session at Tāmaki Makaurau's Samoa House. Enjoy newly viewable footage of LEOA playing 'Afiafi' / 'Siva Masina' and the as yet unreleased 'Musika Malie', and if you're currently in Te Whanganui-a-Tara, be sure to head along to this week's Noa Records residency events at Pyramid Club —details below...
