Transistors Return With Single 'Good Years'

Transistors Return With Single 'Good Years'

Chris Cudby / Tuesday 22nd June, 2021 11:07AM

Canterbury garage punks Transistors have reemerged with a firecracker of a new tune following more than five years of dormancy on the release front. The bold arrow of time is in fact the theme of 'Good Years', looking back fondly on "Saturdays in Sefton learning songs out in the shed," now-obsolete video formats and more — raising a glass to some fine youthful decisions while concluding we have no choice but to keep charging forward. Not to be confused with also very fab Pōneke psych gurus / name usurpers Transistor, the long-awaited new song from Transistors (look for the "s") is launching as a limited edition lathe cut single with fellow guitar wranglers The Situations. You can catch both bands busting loose at Tāmaki's Cassette Nine this Friday 25th June with Emily Edrosa, and at Ōtautahi's Space Academy with Model Home on 17th July. Wrap your ears around 'Good Years' below, standing on its own two feet following last year's appearance on the Barry: The Man Who Moves The Music fundraiser compilation...

"Good Years is a new song about the old days of the band - learning how to play out on Olly's parents' farm in Sefton, North Canterbury. We used to rehearse and try and work out how to write songs in a tiny shed playing through tiny practice amps. Mostly though we'd just watch movies and listen to Ol's dad's incredible record collection, which had a huge impact on our sound in those formative years."
