Mazbou Q Drops New Album 'The Future Was' Feat. Raiza Biza, Phodiso
The culmination of fortnightly single releases beginning in March, Hugh Ozumba's debut album as Mazbou Q The Future Was has finally arrived in its glorious entirety. When he's not laying down his own tracks, Mazbou Q produces for fellow African Kiwi hip hop artists Mo Muse, Phodiso and more, the latter of which features on album cut 'Just Let It Go'. Also on the impressive list of The Future Was cameos is Raiza Biza, Myele Manzanza, Kevin Posey and pop powerhouse Cee Blu, who makes her mark on the album with massive RnB track 'Best Of You'. The 'Best Of You' video, made with support from NZ On Air, imagines Blu and Mazbou Q as superheroes in a high intensity superhuman, Save The World chronicle. Scroll down to watch, and read up on Ozumba's theory behind his unique approach to the album roll-out...
"I decided to release all 10 tracks as singles every fortnight in order to give each a chance to shine. The traditional model of releasing an album, especially when you’re a smaller independent artist, means you run the risk of having much of your hard work gone unheard, especially now that we are in the age of streaming where algorithms and playlisting is the normal way to consume music".
Mazbou Q's 'The Future Was' is out now via streaming services.
