Fat Freddy's Drop Share Single 'Shady' From New Album 'WAIRUNGA'
Te Whanganui-a-Tara titans Fat Freddy's Drop roll into the second half of 2021 with 'Shady', the toasty first single revealed from their forthcoming new album WAIRUNGA. Delving further into the group's shared love of Amapiano (a South African township style of techno), 'Shady' sounds sonically playful yet focussed as Fat Freddy's proceed to unfurl an ever-evolving array of Afro-Acid grooves over the track's extended 7 minute duration — bolstered by hypnagogic dubbed-out flourishes, Joe Dukie's soulful vocal musings and the band's signature horn section.
Described as a "bush-alchemy album" fans can experience an advance taste of WAIRUNGA when the band's accompanying concert film premieres at EVENT Cinemas Newmarket on Wednesday 28th July in Auckland, which is sure to be packed out affair — you can enter the raffle for the chance to purchase tickets for this very special event HERE. Featuring five new songs and revisiting two Fat Freddy's classics, the film will be streamed for free on the band's YouTube and Facebook pages on 31st July at 9pm, plus a repeat screening on Sunday 1 August at 8pm. The album launches in full on 20th August, ushered into reality with a full scale September album launch tour of Aotearoa — head over to their website for tour details HERE, wrap your ears around 'Shady' and check out a snippet from the film below...
