Watch Troy Kingi's 'Black Sea Golden Ladder – The Visual Album'
Troy Kingi (Te Arawa, Ngāpuhi, Te Whānau-ā-Apanui) has treated fans to an hour-long cinematic creation accompanying his latest album Black Sea Golden Ladder — the fifth in the 2020 Taite Music Prize winning songwriter and actor's 10 10 10 series of genre-spanning long players. Created in collaboration with Lyttelton icon Delaney Davidson, Kingi stated his folk-tinted record is "the most personal of all my albums – the first one I feel that is truly about me". The film showcases all-new video works created for each song from the record by directors Dahnu Graham, Hayden Aull, Huhana Ruri-Panapa, Marara Katipa, Nicole Horan, Thomas Rose and Xavier Horan, edited by Huhana Ruri-Panapa. Not dissimilar to an anthology collection, the visual album is tied together by a poetic framing sequence in Te Reo Māori, starring Kingi frequenting a mysterious bar outside of time, viewing different points in Aotearoa people's lives firsthand almost Quantum Leap-style. Described as "an exploration of the human experience that spans from childhood to death" and packing a hefty emotional punch when experienced in its entirety, watch Black Sea Golden Ladder – The Visual Album below and don't miss Kingi and Davidson touring together in August and September...
