An in-demand drummer for such significant local combos as BEING. and Yukon Era, 20 year old singer and multi-instrumentalist Thorington is back with ambitiously catchy new solo single 'Beautiful Covers'. Focusing his lyrical gaze on internal struggles, there's hints of UMO or Prince-like melodicism bubbling through the song, along with a healthy anything-goes dose of Ty Segall riff-scuzz, some scratching and even an attention-grabbing orchestral hit leaping out of the mix. The eclectic track probably wouldn't work at all were it not for the Tāmaki artist's prodigious musical talents, somehow making such disparate elements sound smooth as all heck.
