Connan Mockasin Announces New Album 'Jassbusters Two' + Shares Single 'Flipping Poles'
Is Aotearoa's preeminent psych-pop goblin Connan Mockasin going through a productive streak? Having launched his collaborative album and short film It's Just Wind with father Ade Hosford in July, Mockasin now returns to the creative territory mapped out in his Jassbusters music and film project, revealing there's a second album in the series on the way with lead single 'Flipping Poles'. A six minute slice of noodley folk strummage with a hint of rural gothic hovering about like a ghost in a seance, the new song sets an intriguing tone for the full record to come. Produced by Liam Finn and recorded with bandmates Matthew Eccles, Nicholas Harsant and Rory McCarthy, the tune's rustic feel draws parallels with such easy-going touchstones as Beck's One Foot In The Grave, yet as ever Mockasin is entirely his own enigmatic beast. Purportedly "the most tangible band of imagined music teachers the world has never seen", fresh Jassbusters material undoubtedly means new Boston 'n' Dobsyn film works are on the way too — a "fictional" cinematic melodrama in five parts. Jassbusters Two launches on 5th November via international tastemakers Mexican Summer and you can listen to 'Flipping Poles' right here...
