Premiere: Bub Return With 'Jeez Louise'

Premiere: Bub Return With 'Jeez Louise'

Chris Cudby / Artwork: Priya Sami / Wednesday 22nd December, 2021 10:14AM

Fresh from tearing it up at the People Against Prisons Aotearoa fundraiser last Friday, Tāmaki Makaurau's Bub are back with their second ever single 'Jeez Louise'. A super timely reminder to please take it easy with the booze during the silly season, the new song is Bub band leader's Priya Sami's brave reflection on her own personal relationship with alcohol abuse — given a crunchy, upbeat Cars-y spin while delivering an urgent message to any potential Louises out there. Encouraging listeners to donate to National Collective of Independent Women’s Refuges (NCIWR) this Christmas, Sami opened up about 'Jeez Louise' in an accompanying statement over on Bub's Bandcamp page...

Are you a Louise?

I have been reflecting a lot on my relationship with alcohol, over lockdown and since we’ve opened up bars and shit, red lights given my drinking a green light and the other weekend I was a Class A, awful Louise.

Look, I don’t really remember but at 3am I said something that came out so wrong and so racist and someone called me out - instead of apologising - I acted more obnoxiously! Classic!
Anyway, I ended up *crying on the side of the road. All my fault of course!

Thank you to Achos for taking care of me. I’m sorry for causing trouble and being a shit and thank you for waiting with me on Karangahape for my Uber.

I want to release this song, Jeez Louise, because it was written about being a bad drunk, something I am still working on.
Please take care and look after each other this silly summer season.

Yours sincerely,
Louise (Priya)

IT IS CHRISTMAS AND INSTEAD OF BUYING A BOX YOU COULD DONATE HERE BECAUSE ITS CHRISTMAS
