Venturing further into adventurous avant-pop terrain explored on 2021's standalone single 'Old Peel', Aldous Harding sounds comfortable strutting out new lyrical and sonic shapes on her fourth studio album Warm Chris, never retreating into trite cosiness. Including previously released earworms 'Fever' and 'Lawn', this listener felt practically compelled to hit play on the Aotearoa songwriting icon's collaboration with Sleaford Mods frontman Jason Williamson, album closer 'Leathery Whip', an organ drenched wonky-pop duet that could be a lush cousin of fellow Flying Nun-sters Tall Dwarfs. Feeling less hermetical and even more playful than 2019's Designer, there's a classy timeless flair to these piano-led arrangements — a bit like peering into a kaleidoscope of post-Velvets musical history, yet fit-as-a-fiddle, crescent fresh. Dive in below...

'Warm Chris' is out today via is out today via Flying Nun in Aotearoa and 4AD overseas.
