Asta Rangu Unveil Single / Video ‘VIC’
Ōtepoti student radio chart demons Asta Rangu are back with nifty new noise-pop earworm 'VIC', out today ahead of a national tour with interstellar doom crew Space Bats, Attack! in June. The second single from forthcoming debut album ENTRTNMNT, 'VIC' is a well-timed reflection on western civilisation's "fascination with celebrity, legacy and progress," paired with a video montage of nostalgia-drenched 20th Century pop cultural imagery (all identified as free of copyright restrictions), edited by Asta Rangu songwriter Richard Ley-Hamilton. Recorded with engineer and producer De Stevens (Marlin’s Dreaming) at Otago University’s Te Korokoro o te Tūī and trace / untrace records HQ in North East Valley, the record launches on Friday 27 May, just before the band's double-headline tour rolls into a venue near you...
“This need for distraction and a grand narrative is set against how complicated, challenging and bizarre reality can truly be. Sometimes we need reassurance that we are all flawed, imperfect, and often afraid, and to be compassionate toward ourselves and others.”
