Listen To Dion Lunadon's New Album 'Beyond Everything'
Biding his time between solo records for a commendable five years, NYC-based Aotearoa garage-punk icon Dion Lunadon (The D4, ex-APTBS) has unleashed his second opus Beyond Everything. Streaming now in NZ via high pedigree LA imprint In The Red (overseas listeners will need to wait until it's Friday in their own time zone), Lunadon is by no means a one trick pony on the new album — proudly waving the flag of super scuzzy rock 'n' roll while following his own muse down wild sonic pathways. Organs and tinny drum machines are deployed alongside Lunadon's signature searing guitar and alley cat yowls (with irl drums played by Blaze Bateh and Nick Ferrante), channeling a kaleidoscopic knowledge of 20th Century rock / pop history into ten eminently catchy yet staunchly untamed, time-defying tunes. Touring the US with The Black Angels from this week onwards, then heading over to the EU in November, hopefully Lunadon can also squeeze in a trip back to his homeland in the near future — smash that play button below...
“The record was written and recorded sporadically between 2017 and 2019. I probably wrote about 100 songs during this period. The first album was pretty relentless which I liked, but I wanted to make something more dynamic for the 2nd record. Something that could be more conducive to repeated listens. I’d get in my studio, come up with a song title, and start working on any ideas that I had. For example, with Elastic Diagnostic, the idea was to create a hum that evokes the sound of life coursing through your body. Everything else kind of formed around that idea.” — Dion Lunadon
