Mermaidens Announce Mini Mermgrown 2022 ft. Vera Ellen, ONONO, Kōtiro + More

Curated by Aotearoa's mega-talented Mermaidens, boutique festival Mermgrown is the local gold standard all others are measured against, so it's with considerable excitement we share today's announcement of Mini Mermgrown — happening at Pōneke's San Fran on 2nd December. Transforming the iconic venue with decor, installations and an entire extra stage to boot, Mermaidens have invited a typically high quality lineup to join them at their hometown rager, including Vera Ellen, ONONO (the synth-pop project of Jono Nott from Hans Pucket and Broods), Kōtiro, Hybrid Rose, Vida, plus Practice Presents DJs Alice Agnes, Eml, and Meggs. Mermaidens themselves have been hard at work on album number four and promise to debut new tunes on the night. Good things come in small packages. That’s why Mermaidens have created Mini Mermgrown - a fun-sized version of their beloved Mermgrown Festival. On Friday 2 Dec they’ll be squeezing all the goodness of the festival into San Fran - with two stages and NINE artists. All Mermgrown events have sold out previously, and this one will be no different!

Mini Mermgrown will wrap up another year of high notes for Mermaidens - which include supporting bands like Parquet Courts, celebrating Flying Nun with a performance at Christchurch Art Gallery, and most importantly finishing their 4th studio album. Mermaidens will premiere this new material at Mini Mermgrown, along with plenty of songs from previous releases.

Alongside Mermaidens, the lineup features Taite Prize and Aotearoa Music Award-nominated artist Vera Ellen, who has had a killer year following the release of her album “It’s Your Birthday”. Also joining the lineup are ONONO, a project led by Jono Nott (Hans Pucket, Broods) that will get you shimmying like nobody’s business. Mermaidens are very excited to welcome Kōtiro, aka Ana Scotney who is a superstar both in the music world and on the big screen - having starred in films like Millie Lies Low and The Breakerupperers.

The second stage will feature synthpop princess Hybrid Rose, with a show dripping with campy flair and hyper-femme energy. Merm-goers will also be treated to a special show from up-and-coming artist Vida. From midnight, Practice Presents will take over the stage with DJs Alice Agnes, Eml and Meggs playing into the small hours.

Get ready for San Fran like you’ve never seen it before, with installations and projections setting the scene for a huge (but mini) night of music. It’s small enough to fit in your back pocket.
