Hitting Tāmaki Makaurau's Neck of the Woods on 24th November, Jacksonville, Florida melodic hardcore heavyweights Evergreen Terrace are playing their first ever Aotearoa headline event in over 22 years of active duty (including six studio albums), joined by Grafton's XILE and Hamilton's Drop off Point. Co-founder of the New Zealand Hardcore Past and Present project — "a page dedicated to archive New Zealand's Hardcore scene spanning back over nearly 35 years and not letting these memories die" — Garreth Steiner (Drop Off Point) cooked up a punchy selection of questions for Evergreen Terrace, first published over on the NZHCPP site and featured here with permission. Garreth Steiner: Favourite hc and punk albums right now?

Evergreen Terrace: Come Back Kid. That new album is the fucking bomb. Also, this new band from Philly called Excide.

Is the band looking forward to coming to NZ and what are you keen to see and do while here?

Of course. It’s a place we’ve always wanted to play. Jason (bass player) and I are huge Lord of the Rings fans and in those movies, the country looks absolutely beautiful. I wanted to go to the lil Hobbit place but I was told it kind of a tourist trap so I guess I’ll skip that and go see something real Kiwi stuff.

The band has been together for 22 years now? How has the journey been?

I feel like when you are involved with any type of art or doing something you love for so long you become institutionalized and it becomes a journey with no end or destination. It’s a part of you not just something you do. I’m thankful for the places I got to go to and the people I’ve met over the years. I never took it for granted. It’s still the only thing I want to do.

How'd you happen to only just make it to NZ now after all this time?

I don’t know... you tell me. No one has asked us before lol.

What can we expect from an Evergreen Terrace show?

Hmmm, magic.

Are you guys in any other bands, and who should we keep an eye out for?

Nah, only this one. Keep an eye out for that band Excide.

A few kiwis I know went to Furnace Fest, How was it?

Amazing. They have been some of the funnest shows we’ve played in the last few years. I love that fest. Great to see so many friends and good bands in one place.
