Guardian Singles Perform 'Manic Attraction' - UTR Trash Recital

We're thrilled to share the first episode of UTR presents Trash Recital Season 3 — starring Guardian Singles, produced by Sports Team and made with support from NZ On Air!

Sports Team have shaken up the universally beloved Trash Recital format for 2023 — making like a modern day Selwyn Toogood in It's In The Bag, where the bag is now the only option! That's correct, instead of a dazzling variety of recycled everyday nick-nacks to choose from, for Trash Recital Season 3 special guests from throughout Aotearoa are invited to select a MYSTERY BAG and make musical magic from whatsoever they find within.

Our first episode for Trash Recital Season 3 stars Tāmaki Makaurau post-punks Guardian Singles, who have just launched their superb second album Feed Me To The Doves via US imprint Trouble In Mind Records. Touring their new record nationwide in July and August, the super-group’s Thom Burton (Crash Teslas, SoccerPractise), Fiona Campbell (Vivian Girls, Chain and The Gang, Coolies), and Durham Fenwick (Green Grove, Dimmer live band) swung by the UTR studios to reimagine their anthem ‘Manic Attraction’.

For each episode of Trash Recital we've invited some of our favourite Aotearoa artists into the UTR studios to perform one of their songs, re-created using everyday items selected from Sports Team's stockpile of recycled junk. Trash Recital not only provides a launchpad for stunning reimaginings of recent (and soon to be) classic tunes, but also the perfect opportunity for a chinwag with our local musical heroes.
