Swallow The Rat Share Single / Video 'Redactor's Dilemma'
Unleashing a second serving of squalling guitars in the lead up to their latest album South Locust, Swallow The Rat's 'Redactor's Dilemma' features the welcome return of Hayley Fisher of Dead Little Penny, contributing guest vocals to the Tāmaki trio's panoramic new single. Riding contemplative motorik rhythms punctured by explosive distorted passages, 'Redactor's Dilemma' ponders the politics of censorship within our postcolonial, post-internet context. Soon embarking on a release tour taking them across Te Ika-a-Māui and a run of Melbourne dates, Swallow the Rat have also shared a shadowy visualiser clip for their new anthem — smash play and go catch them live from 31st August onwards...
"The 'redactor's dilemma' is where a censor has to decide how much to censor. If you leave in too much, people will know the secret, but if you edit out too much, then its absence will alert people to that the document has been censored. It kind of ties in with the theme of colonisation in the other songs on the album – things that are uncomfortable and therefore hidden." — Stephen Horsley
