The third annual SRN (Student Radio Network) Awards was hosted by RadioActive.FM in Te Whanganui-a-Tara on Saturday, with member stations across the motu beaming in their contributions via video feed. UnderTheRadar were honoured to receive the He Tohu Kahurangi (Outstanding Achievement Award) presented by NZ Music Commission. I accepted the accolade on behalf of our team — Daryl Fincham, Angela Windust and Samantha Cheong — thanked UTR contributors Sports Team (Trash Recital) and Yeehawtheboys (Down Under and UnderTheRadar) for their innovative mahi, and acknowledged the SRN's crucial ongoing support of Aotearoa's most adventurous musicians, and our live music community.

We were stoked to see former UTR team member Hunter Keane take away the He Tohu Kahurangi o te Pāhotanga ki a 95bFM / 95bFM’s Outstanding Achievement in Broadcasting award, in celebration of his "tireless mahi supporting and championing Aoteaora’s independent and alternative musicians and artists every week on air, online, and IRL since he was a wee teen". It was also a good night for Sunreturn, whose artists K M T P and deepState were bestowed with national awards.

There were a bevy of regional prizes doled out during an entirely wholesome evening celebrating our local greats — punctuated by heartfelt speeches, hilarious ad-libs, occasional stream dropouts, scintillating live performances and super fun, inventive intro videos. Head over to 95bFM, Radio Control 99.4FM, RadioActive.FM, RDU 98.5 FM, and Radio One 91FM's Instagram pages for the full official scoop, including each station's favourite songs of the year and Outstanding Contribution awards. Peep the nationwide award winner details below and be sure to head along to the all-star Save The b fundraiser event at Auckland Town Hall on 20th December, details HERE.
