Here's Five: Shonen Knife's Favourite Songs About Food
Shonen Knife have written many snack-themed classics during their four decade plus career — eg. 'Banana Chips', 'I Wanna Eat Chocobars', 'Ramen Rock' — so given the opportunity, we simply had to ask the Japanese punk-pop legends about their personal favourite food-themed songs. Co-founding guitarist / singer Naoko Yamano generously named five delectable tunes to feast your ears upon below. Dare not miss Shonen Knife on tour all around Te Ika-a-Māui this March, joined by a lolly scramble of local special guests including CINDY, Cootie Cuties, Teenwolf and Sure Boy, brought to you by Susie Says!...

The Beatles – 'Strawberry Fields Forever'
This is not a food song actually but the title includes Strawberry and I chose this.
The Beatles is the first band which I was so inspired. When I was a teenager, The Beatles 1962-1966 and The Beatles 1967-1970 were released. My friend bought the red one 1962-1966 and I bought the blue one 1967-1970. We exchanged and listen and listen again. I love late Beatles. Especially I loved the song 'Strawberry Fields Forever'. I put my ear in audio set and listened carefully and enjoyed the psychedelic world.
Shonen Knife – 'Sweet Candy Power'
I love candies. I believe that candies have power. When I get tired, they make me cheerful. I always take candies with me when I tour. They are good for my sore throat. Manuka Honey candies are the best!
Kinks – 'Afternoon Tea'
Melody lines of Kinks are fantastic. I wish I could make such cool melody lines. I also like 'Afternoon Tea' to eat. It is like an amusement of sweets. We Shonen Knife have the same title song in our latest album Our Best Place.
Syd Barrett - 'Baby Lemonade'
His activity period as a musician was very short but he is a kind of genius. The world of him is very unique and special.
Redd Kross – 'Peach Kelli Pop'
Redd Kross and Shonen Knife got to know each other in late '80s. I went to their show in late '80s in Los Angeles and I became a fan of them quickly. They joined a tribute album of Shonen Knife Every Band Has A Shonen Knife Who Loves Them (1989) and they wrote a song called 'Shonen Knife'. For the answer song, I wrote a song called 'Redd Kross' which is including our album 712 released in 1991. Anyway, I love Redd Kross a lot.
