Rhombus Live In Raglan & Leigh This June

Rhombus Live In Raglan & Leigh This June

Chris Cudby / Wednesday 24th April, 2024 9:55AM

Sizzling up local and overseas dancefloors with their bass-booming blend of dub / soul / funk / reggae since 2001, Rhombus have announced headline dates in Raglan and Leigh for 1st and 2nd June, staving off any early winter blues in celebration for their new collection Remixes and Archives Vol. 2. The Te Whanganui-a-Tara's collective's core team of Simon Rycroft, Koa Williams and Thomas Voyce will be joined on the mic for both parties by Lisa Tomlins and TK Paradza, both of whom leant their golden vocal skills to Rhombus' grooving 2022 anthem 'Treat You So Right', featured on their 2022 long player After Party. Out this May aka NZ Music Month / Te Marama Puoro o Aotearoa, Remixes and Archives Vol. 2 is the long-simmering sequel to 2006's Onwards - Remixes and Archives. Look forward to "unreleased studio mixes of previous and forthcoming brand new tracks" this coming King's Birthday weekend and dig out your dancing shoes...

Press release:

Original Te Whanganui-a-Tara (Wellington) collective Rhombus celebrate Kings Birthday 2024 weekend with their forthcoming release 'Remixes and Archives Vol. 2' in May 2024, blending their south pacific musical style with combinations of funk, soul, reggae and electronic dub Wobbly bass, frenetic drum lines, and echoed synth; Rhombus are still the masters of their distinctive and unique sound.

With Koa, Simon and Thomas at the controls, and special guests on the mic, Lisa Tomlins and TK Paradza, originating from Zimbabwe, the Rhombus crew will be laying down their original sound, along with unreleased studio mixes of previous and forthcoming brand new tracks!

Established in 2001, Rhombus first made a splash on the scene in 2002 with their award-winning debut album 'BASS PLAYER featuring the iconic singles “Clav Dub” and “Onward (Step it Up)”. They followed up with their critically acclaimed sophomore album Future Reference in 2005. 2006 saw the release of Onwards: Remixes and Archives Vol. 1 and then their final studio album Rhombus in 2008.

The group went on hiatus in 2011 to pursue other projects. The intervening years saw core members Simon Rycroft, Koa Williams and Thomas Voyce keep busy with a range of other activities, including producing, mixing and mastering in their studio, postgradu-ate research, teaching, DJ shows, tour management, light and sound installations.
