Joe Kaptein Announces 'Eternal Afternoon' Album Release Show + Unveils Single 'Unwavering'
Core member of Nathan Haines' new Soft Chaos combo with Elijah Whyte, Princess Chelsea's Dream Warriors band and player of the humungous Auckland Town Hall organ at last year's Save The b fundraiser, Tāmaki Makaurau multi-instrumentalist Joe Kaptein has also maintained an incredibly prolific solo output over the past twelve months. Kaptein follows May's Ode To Burt tribute to the late, great Burt Bacharach with news of brand new expedition in sound Eternal Afternoon, teased with the scintillating "kaleidoscopic yacht-jazz-funk" goodness of lead single 'Unwavering' — some people hoard all the talent!
Happily for super city gig goers, Kaptein is hosting a release event at Neck Of The Woods on 18th July, leading a nine piece band "from behind a sonic spaceship of several '70s keyboards" with album contributors Wil Goodinson, Elijah Whyte, Jason Herbert, Shaun O’Kane, Kurt Dyer and Ben Frater, plus Julien Dyne and JY Lee, opened by jazz-psych collective Fruju Peak. The artist's "first album arranged and produced with a full band," Eternal Afternoon launches in full via Sarang Bang Records on 12th July, with the limited vinyl LP edition out "approximately September" (preorder via Bandcamp HERE). Listen up to 'Unwavering' and head along...
