Grecco Romank Announce Album Release Party + Share Single 'Don't Get Caught' ft. Princess Chelsea

Tāmaki Makaurau electronic trio Grecco Romank's artistic vision is famously maximal — extending beyond politically profound musical releases / killer live shows into the world of scented candles, videos (both collaborative and often their own self-directed works) and even transgressive performance art (as anyone who attended their early gigs cannot forget). The team of Damian Golfinopoulos, Bille Fee and Mikey Sperring today officially reveal what may be their most ambitious project to date: their new studio album Arts Colony will be accompanied by a massive 300 page, full-colour book, crammed full of "exclusive visual art and writing from the band", and including contributions from thirty seven artists from throughout Aotearoa [full disclosure: I contributed a page].

Grecco Romank wave the starting flag for this explosion of creativity with lead single from the new record 'Don't Get Caught'. Envisioning a sonic reality where italo disco magick interweaves with club-pumping EBM, Fee and Sperring pass the mic with Taite Music Prize-winning special guest Princess Chelsea aka Chelsea Nikkel. A thrilling romance drama sparked by gags about the band's own "public persona as a throuple", the murderous lyrical inspirations for 'Don't Get Caught' turned out to be literally close to home for Nikkel, as she explained below.

The cherry on top will be the Arts Colony release party at Tāmaki Makaurau's Double Whammy on 24th May — inviting along from Pōneke / Whanganui hip-hop dynamos Bad Taste aka Alphabethead and Young Ghost, electronic dance maestro Body Beat Ritual (also from Whanganui), and newcomers Stud Finder. It's all a lot to take in! Don't think, just go to Grecco Romank's Arts Colony launch extravaganza, preorder the album and limited edition book (100 copies only) combo HERE, and listen up to 'Don't Get Caught' featuring Princess Chelsea...

"When Grecco asked me to sing on a tragic love song about a throuple gone wrong I jumped at the chance. I'm a big fan and love to collaborate with artists I admire. I wasn't aware of this Waiheke legend even though I live here. Weirdly – a few days after I agreed to sing on 'Don't Get Caught,' a man approached me at the Waiheke chilli sauce festival and told me an in-depth story about a murderous Chinese poet who moved from China to Rocky Bay – turns out the scene of the crime was next door to my house". — Princess Chelsea

Press release:

IT’S AN ACID RECESSION AS GRECCO ROMANK RELEASE ALBUM ARTS COLONY

The digital guillotine drops May 24th as Grecco Romank unleash their new album Arts Colony. Financial towers will crumble beneath golden streams as Double Whammy becomes a techno-feudal basement for modern young serfs ready to liquidate all stock.

And overseeing the cuts, Whanganui investment specialists Bad Taste (Alphabethead & Young Gho$t) offer psychedelic hip-hop returns while Body Beat Ritual's reality-reshaping techno portfolio ensures maximum yield before total market collapse.

And introducing the blood hungry Stud Finder to complete the financial tribunal. As indentured servants of the algo your presence is demanded.
