New Way Home Reuniting For Auckland Headline Show

New Way Home Reuniting For Auckland Headline Show

Chris Cudby / Wednesday 18th June, 2025 10:38AM

An Aotearoa metal / hardcore super-collective who have counted members of Day One, Sommerset, Blindspott and 8 Foot Sativa amongst their ranks, during their first era New Way Home were invited to share the stage alongside such international icons of heavy music as Slipknot, Meshuggah, Devin Townsend, Killswitch Engage, and more. Dormant for more than ten years following the release of their debut album Mirrors in 2012 — preceded by their 2005 Anomaly EP (released via UTR founder Daryl Fincham's Midium imprint) — New Way Home electrify our community with news of their return this winter.

They've announced a headline event at Tāmaki Makaurau's Double Whammy on 12th July, joined by special guests from Whanganui Pull Down the Sun and post-punks Nailfile (featuring members of Old Loaves, Cobra Khan and Death Church). Newcomers can learn more about the group via Richie Simpson's (City of Souls) hugely informative 2012 interview with NZrock.com HERE, and everybody is advised to snap up tickets for this monumental reunion show immediately...

Press release:

Join New Way Home for their first show back in over a decade, alongside Pull Down The Sun and Nailfile at Double Whammy on July 12th.

Formed in 2002 from classic nineties hardcore band Dayone, New Way Home’s sound blends groove metal, thrash and grunge influence, with post hardcore, shoegaze and progressive flavours. Never shy to juxtapose vulnerability with aggression. Light, shade and detail is where their music thrives.

Having shared stages with Slipknot, Meshuggah, Bring Me The Horizon, Architects and Devin Townsend to name a few, fusing broad influence into heavy music has always worked in their favour.

A passionate fan base, still hungry after a decade hiatus is true testament to the power of their music.

Joining New Way Home on the night is Pull Down the Sun, a heavy, atmospheric metal band from Whanganui, Aotearoa, blending late ’90s Deftones-style riffing with the modern weight of Gojira, The Ocean, and Isis. Since forming in 2014, they’ve built a reputation for powerful live shows across New Zealand and Australia, and have supported many international and local heavyweights.

Their music draws inspiration from the land and stories of Aotearoa, fusing weighty grooves with moody ambience and soaring dynamics. With a sound that’s both grounded and expansive, PDtS continues to carve their path as one of New Zealand’s most compelling modern metal acts.

Alongside New Way Home and Pull Down The Sun is Nailfile. With members of Old Loaves, Cobra Khan and Death Church, Nailfile brings a unique taste of fierce post punk, soaked in the sonic ire of pedals on the verge of breaking down. Fusing the palettes of Siouxsie & the Banshees with the grime and grit of Unsane, there’s no signs of serotonin left in this lot.
