The Bats Announce New Album 'Corner Coming Up' + Share Single & Video 'Lucky Day'

I will not be the first to note that any day The Bats release music into the world is a 'Lucky Day' as far as listeners are concerned. Their lineup fabulously unchanged since they formed in 1982, Robert Scott, Kaye Woodward, Paul Kean and Malcolm Grant have announced the latest chapter of The Bats' legendary songbook, Corner Coming Up, the Ōtautahi Christchurch quartet's eleventh studio album out via Flying Nun Records on 17th October.

Recorded with Tex Houston at Chicks Studio in Port Chalmers, new second single 'Lucky Day' (the first being SRN hit 'Loline') dispels winter gloom with gently fried jangle-pop warmth and blissful wordplay — "You might not make it back / Don't know where you've gone / But if you get in touch / We'll sing you a song / The one with all the words that float away / The one with words that make my day". The southern psych-pop ballad arrives online complete with globetrotting lucky cat visuals, "shot out of a suitcase by Marc Swadel, Julian Reid and Kermath, while on work trips".

The Bats have locked in a headline date at Geraldine Cinema on 28th August and have high profile festival appearances on the cards too, playing at Eyegum's GREAT SOUNDS GREAT 2025 in Pōneke and Tāmaki Makaurau's annual multi-venue highlight The Others Way.
