The Situations Unveil Single & Video 'Thinking About My Brain'
Consistently gifting listeners thoughtful and mega-catchy garage-pop gems for more than two decades, Papakura kings The Situations are back with 'Thinking About My Brain', teasing whole new album of tunes Winning Home and Away out this August. Pondering the inner workings of our mind's eye from a bunch of angles, their new song was launched yesterday with a cannily crafted DIY lyric video filmed at home and away.
"Reformed and reanimated as a power trio with the input of multi-instrumentalist Joe Kaptein", The Situations have a pair of gala release gigs lined up for their long-awaited fourth studio record, playing with Bub and The Nudie Suits (a very rare appearance!) at Tāmaki Makaurau's Whammy Bar, and with Violet French Band at Ōtautahi's Space Academy. After a couple of spins you won't be able to get 'Thinking About My Brain' out of your head...
"Taha Hinengaro concepts form the basis here. This waiata reflects a new awareness of how deeply our mind can search for meaning from all angles. There is an inward pull, sometimes too full on, sometimes quiet, though the awareness alone doesn’t stop us going there. Moments of intrigue are also reflected upon, and an appreciation for the beautiful people in our lives — ‘Chef-d'oeuvre dans ma vitrine’ — and the beautiful moments we have experienced without thinking — ‘rugby in a sandstorm.’ Stu Kett sings this one. I would have thought about it too much…" - Samuel Kett (Ngāti Tūwharetoa)
